We have learned to not assume a candidate’s spiritual walk with Christ. Some come with tremendous maturity; some with needs and little time spent in personal devotions. We have learned over the years that a person’s spiritual maturity needs to be grown over a course of time, rather than taught as a module for a couple of weeks. We need to know that a candidate is listening to the Lord and obeying. It is vitally important that people of all ages and backgrounds know how to find food for their souls in the Word of God daily. It is also important for missionaries to find their spiritual stride among their new people group.
