Mentoring

Jesus told us to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt 28:19). Yet making disciples is an art to be learned that has specific applications depending on the culture and religious background of the people. Pitfalls vary according to location. Filling in the gaps requires an observant worker that understands the ways of the people. Discipleship is also difficult to provide when the candidate may not have personally been discipled. Both receiving discipleship and giving it to the next generation of believers must be learned. Each candidate is mentored during their time in Immerge by seasoned field workers during the course of the year. Mentors ask the questions to help the candidates more fully grasp their calling and also describe the realities of the field. Singles and married couples alike are encouraged to be a blessing to both their team and the people to which God is directing them. Questions are addressed of how children are raised in a foreign location and what types of education are available. Having experienced mentors to relate to in this process is a highlight of the learning process.
